Staff Sergeant Charles Weers

Charles Delmar “Charlie” Weers, 94, of Pana passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019 in Heritage Health—Pana. He was born November 16, 1924 in Pana, son of the late Henry & Emmer (Hoover) Weers. Charlie married Aida “Dolly” Fiore on December 5, 1948 in Queens, NY. She preceded him in death on April 28, 2003.
Charlie served in the Army Air Guard/Army Air Force and was awarded the World War II Distinguished Flying Cross. He lived in the Pana area his entire life and was retired from Caterpillar. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Pana; Pana American Legion and was past president of the Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry in Pana.
In his younger years, he square danced with his wife and was on a bowling league for many years. Charlie was a sponsor of the Pana Sacred Heart 3rd grade class and was very active with the class.
Charlie is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Steven) Jackson, Decatur, IL; grandson, Keith (Chelsea) Redman, Perry, OK; great grandchildren: Alexander Redman & Jonathon Redman, both of Decatur, IL and brother, William Weers, Winter Garden, FL. Besides his parents & wife, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Paul Weers in infancy and sister, Pauline Weers.

    Uncle Charlie was a good man. He always had a funny story. At lunch when a co-worker said he had a cured ham sandwich, Uncle Charlie said his ham has never been sick, RIP thank you for your service.
