Tec 4 Ferdinand Kolesar
Born October 30, 1917 – Died November 12, 1982
Tec 4 Ferdinand Kolesar was one of six brothers serving, at the same time, during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for gallant action against the Japanese on the northern Solomons stronghold. He volunteered to go on a combat patrol ahead of his front lines, although his normal military duty was a motor mechanic. He brought in an enemy field piece that had been knocked out about 75 yards in front of the front lines. Finding the weapon so badly demolished to be of no military value, the patrol went forward to clear the sector of snipers. He displayed great courage and performed meritorious work in disregarding personal danger to volunteer his services on the combat patrol.
